Artist Statement

Inspired by my heart for nurturing, being a mother and now grandmother, I believe our homes are the central place of stability and our sanctuary from the world. I create paintings that bring more of that energy into your space.

My passion for art started as soon as I could hold a crayon in my hand, and I've always been drawing or painting something.

Time stands still
       when I paint.

Now that my own children are grown, I’ve returned to my studio and fallen in love with the creative process all over again. My work is both an exploration and a remembering of my life.

The process of creating my paintings begins with a charcoal sketch, where I lay the groundwork for my composition and values. I appreciate how charcoal allows me to explore depth and form effectively. Following this, I transition to acrylics, which enable me to work swiftly, layering colors without the lengthy dry times of other mediums. Finally, I finish my paintings with a rich layer of oils. The vibrancy and luscious quality of oils give life to my work in a way that feels complete. This multi layered approcah not only captures my artistic expression but also mirrors my life's journey - each layer building upon the last, much like the experiences that shape who we are.

I am currently working on a new Dream series, taking private commissions, illustrating a children’s book, and preparing for the next art show here in Durango Colorado.

Dreams

My heart hurts for what our world is going through right now…and yet I keep having dreams of peace and unity coming to humanity. I created this series as a beginning to seeing that come to fruition.

Oklahoma Heritage Series

I grew up in Oklahoma, right by the fairgrounds where the Native Americans held their drum circles and annual pow wows. I was always so inspired by their spirit, their tribal connection, their rituals and ceremonial dress. These paintings express my admiration and respect for our nations rich Native American heritage. The wisdom of the grandmother, the warrior spirit of the men, the beauty and innocence of the children. This collection is my homage to this beautiful culture and way of life.

Rodeo in color Series

My daughter was obsessed with horses when she was little - like so many little girls. She began barrel racing and we would often find ourselves at rodeo events on the weekends. I love capturing the spirit of the rodeo in this collection. Something changes when you are with a horse. They have an inner knowing that brings their rider into a present confident respectful space. I use inks, acrylics, and finish with vibrant oils in these pieces. They invite the viewer to remember their inner child or hero within…the cowgirl (or cowboy) spirit that says “Lets ride!”

Pet commissions

Pet portraits are created to honor the bond we share with the animals that become part of our family. In a world filled with endless phone pictures and digital snapshots, an original hand-painted portrait offers something far more personal and lasting — a true piece of art created with intention, emotion, and individuality. My goal is to capture not only the appearance of a beloved pet, but also their spirit, personality, and presence in a way that photographs often cannot. Whether celebrating a lifelong companion, commemorating a cherished memory, or giving a deeply meaningful gift, each portrait is a timeless keepsake and a lasting tribute to the unconditional connection we share with our pets.

animal spirit series

I love living in the Mountains of Southern Colorado. I feel like a little kid when I wake up and see the deer across our back pasture. This series is my infatuation with the animal life here where we live. The elk, the mule deer, the hummingbirds that battle outside our kitchen window, the crow the soars on the mountain breeze, the eagle that soars above it all, the Bear that scares and inspires me - I love living so close to nature. These paintings bring you a little bit of Colorado wherever you hale from.

Portrait Commissions

Original portraits and commissioned pieces are created to capture more than just a likeness — they preserve emotion, connection, and the unique essence of a person in a way that lasts beyond a moment in time. Through a blend of realism, expressive detail, and artistic interpretation, each piece becomes a one-of-a-kind work of art designed to tell a personal story. Whether created as a meaningful gift, a tribute to a loved one, or a lasting family legacy, these portraits are intended to hold emotional value for generations. My goal is to create artwork that feels deeply personal, timeless, and worthy of the memories and relationships it represents.

Abstraction Series

As an artist, my work explores the space between intention and instinct, blending abstract realism with emotional storytelling. I create through a process that embraces both structure and chaos — much like life itself — allowing each piece to evolve organically through movement, texture, and symbolism. My journey has taught me that hardship can become a catalyst for growth, and that transformation often emerges from uncertainty. Through layered imagery and expressive energy, I hope to create work that resonates on a deeper level, reminding others that resilience is not found in avoiding struggle, but in the courage to move through it.

Still Life Series

I love visiting our local farmers market and finding fresh-grown treasures from community farmers. While painting these still life's, I thought of summers at my grandmother’s home in Texas, picking all the figs I wanted from her trees. A bowl of lemons glowing in window light, or apples recalling fall harvests in Durango, inspire me to slow down and notice the beauty in ordinary moments. Through layered inks, acrylics, and vibrant oils, these paintings are meant to offer a quiet pause from the busyness of life — a chance to truly see. The ordinary is what we are made of, and often what connects us most deeply to art.
